Filmkritik: “Avatar”
Ich habe mir Avatar angesehen. In 3D. Den größten, den teuersten und den aufregendsten Film aller Zeiten.
Nunja … groß und teuer zumindest. Aufregend ist aber anders.
Aber der Reihe nach. Eine Filmkritik abzugeben ist für Avatar gar so nicht ganz einfach. Viele – so wie auch ich – haben den Film sicher wegen der seit 10 Jahren andauernden (Be)werbung von James Cameron gesehen. Man hat irgendwie das Gefühl, dass man den Film gesehen haben muss, da man ansonsten eine sinnästhetische Revolution des Kinos verpasst.
In der Tat sind die visuellen Eindrücke ziemlich spektakulär und bestechen durch die sehr schöne 3Dimensionalität – definitiv der große USP des Films. Es gab ja in den letzten Jahren schon viele Filme in 3D. Diese Qualität habe ich allerdings noch bei keinem anderen gesehen.
Der 3D-Effekt wurde vor allem auch durch eine schöne Tiefenunschärfe erzeugt. So wurden beispielsweise Fliegen im Vordergrund so verschwommen abgebildet, wie das menschliche Auge sie auch in der Realität wahrnehmen würde. Eine Immersion wird durch die 3D-Technik maßgeblich unterstützt, man fühlt sich stärker in die Welt hineinversetzt als es ohne die dritte Dimension möglich wäre.
Guckt man allerdings auf andere Aspekte des Films, die sich nicht mit der Technik beschäftigen, kommt das große Aber:
Warum muss ein Film, an dem so lange gearbeitet wurde so blödsinnig sein? Dabei ist die grundlegende Storyline selber gar nicht mal so schlecht. Es geht um ein Naturvolk mit dem Namen Na’vi, auf dessen Planet Bodenschätze sind, die die Menschen haben wollen. Der Protagonist schlüpft dann in einen sogenannten Avatar mit dem Aussehen der Na’vi und soll diese ausspionieren. Dabei verliebt er sich und rettet am Schluss natürlich das Naturvolk vor dem Untergang. Soweit ganz ok und zeitlos.
Die Frage ist nur WIE das ganze umgesetzt wurde. Dabei jagt leider ein Blödsinn den nächsten…
So werden die Charaktere (bis auf Sigourney Weaver) extrem platt und überzeichnet dargestellt. Der böse General sieht aus wie Duke Nukem und handelt auch so. Die Figur würde besser zu einer Comic-Verfilmung passen.
Auch sonst ist die Botschaft des Films mehr als platt: Eingeborene für Bodenschätze umhauen und Natur zerstören ist irgendwie nicht so toll. Bei der Rettung ihrer Welt agieret das Naturvolk blöd wie Brot. Warum muss denn erst ein Mensch kommen um Sie zu retten?
Und was soll eigentlich der ganze Kitsch und diese ekelige esoterische Musik? Warum muss die Welt pausenlos lila leuchten und blinken? Auch ist die Welt der Na’vi einfach zu perfekt und damit vollkommen unrealistisch. Die Realität hat immer Fehler und Anzeichen von Zerfall.
So wirkt trotz der hochwertigen Optik die Darstellung der Welt und der Charaktere streckenweise sehr künstlich. Cameron hat sich anscheinend bemüht alles realistisch aussehen zu lassen – doch wirklich geglückt ist ihm das nicht. Vielleicht liegt das aber wohl an dem heutigen Stand der Technik, die noch 10 weitere Jahre braucht? So wirken Fluggeräte oder Drachen teilweise eher wie aus einem Computerspiel und eben nicht wie “selbstgefilmt”.
Außerdem: Warum müssen die Na’vi eigentlich fast wie Menschen aussehen? Die sind doch 100% CGI. Warum also humaniode mit hölzern wirkender Minik?
Zugute halten muss man dem Film die letzten 30 Minuten. Die sind schönste Action und bieten einige wirklich spektakuläre Szenen die Spass machen.
Fazit:
Trotz der schönen Bilder ist Avatar kein Film den man unbedingt gesehen haben muss. Die Umsetzung wirkt zusammengestückelt aus einem schlechten Indianerfilm und einer billigen Romanze und ist Mainstream-Geplänkel damit auch der dümmste Zuschauer mitkommt.
Vielleicht wird die Camerons entwickelte Technik ja bald einen wirklich großen Film hervorbringen. Dieser ist es zumindest nicht.
